Tournament Update

We have been receiving many questions lately about the Whakatāne January Touch Tournament – So we’re here to share a young update with you now.

Firstly – Yes, the classic Whakatāne Jan Tourney will be returning in January 2022 for the 35th year! We will be holding our iconic Drop-off event on Friday 7th Jan 2022, with the main event happening Saturday 8th Jan 2022.

We are thrilled to announce that the Whakatāne Charitable Trust Association have returned to run the event after a year break. With the absence of George Rogers, they have been working hard over the past few months to prep for this competition.

This year will see many exciting and new changes for the Whakatāne Jan Tourney, including a brand-new website! All tournament information will be posted here, including online team and referee registrations, draws and latest updates.

Just like previous years – our team entry policy is “first in – first served” once registrations open. However teams are required to meet the entry criteria before their entry is confirmed. This means there are no pre-entered teams.

To successfully enter the tournament, teams must complete their team registration online; register their nominated referee; and pay the $450 entry fee. Team registrations will open 15th September 2021 at 6:00am.

Over the next couple weeks, our website will be activated for referee registrations and updated to with other exciting information. Until then, keep an eye out on our social media pages; We will be sharing some awesome news in the next couple of hours so stay tuned!
